Harlequins Foundation, RFU and Met Police introduce more coaches to the grassroots game

This coming season, the Harlequins Foundation will be working more closely with the Metropolitan Police across it’s range of schools programmes in a bid to use rugby and its core values to help address some of the key issues facing London’s young people.

Earlier this year, the two organisations joined forces for the first time as part of the Premiership Rugby and England Rugby initiative ‘Project Rugby’ as they helped to support over 1500 new players to give rugby a go for the first time across South London.

To kick start the brand new season, the Harlequins Foundation will support a group of 16 Met Police Officers to gain their England Rugby Coaching Award and enable them to develop their coaching skills and officially become part of the Harlequins Foundation rugby family.

Participation manager, Matthew Williams, commented; “We’re really pleased and excited to form this partnership with the Met Police as we aim to encourage even more young Londoners into rugby this season. It’s great to share our rugby knowledge and experiences with the officers, who in turn have been great at supporting us to address the various challenges faced by young people in our communities”.

A key aim for the Harlequins Foundation is the introduction of impactful, transformative and most importantly sustainable solutions to address the issues faced by society. As such, this England Rugby Coaching Award has been opened up to school teachers, rugby leaders, mentors and club volunteers in a bid to further develop the local rugby coaching workforce.
